NSW TEAM YARDERS BASIC RULES

A team consists of three (3) riders

The announcer is to advise randomly drawn collar colour. As the first competitor crosses the start line the clock will commence. A team has 20 seconds to cross the start line, after the colour has been indicated, before the clock will start automatically.

Within a ninety second time limit a team must cut from the mob and yard three head of cattle with the same assigned colour. A warning bell is to be rung a minimum of 30 seconds prior to the end of the run.

The foul line is positioned approximately in the centre area of the arena. All cattle must be on the mob side of the line and horses on the other before time begins. Time for a run commences when the first of the three horses crosses the starting line.

A team can call time only once. To call time one rider must cross the plane of the gate and raise one hand after one, or all of the assigned cattle are in the yard.

No horses are to enter the yard while the clock is running to draft cattle. All drafting of cattle must be done in the arena.

A team may call time with one, two or three cattle yarded. Teams with three cattle will be placed higher than those with two and those with two will be higher than those with one.

Time cannot be given until the assigned cattle are in the yard and all other cattle are behind the foul line.

No time will be given if incorrect cattle are in the yard when time is called.

Any more than five head of cattle across the starting line at any time incurs a no time.

No whips to be used on horses or cattle, No rough handling or excessive speed.

The judge has the right to disqualify any competitor in breach of the rules.

Rule Amendment - 1/11/06

Once the team of riders have secured 3 marked head of cattle over the foul line they must not allow stock to return back over the foul line to the mob. Riders may cross the foul line freely to block.

Each head that passes back over the centre line back to the mob cannot be regathered. The mob must not be re-entered by riders. In effect once you have had a chance at yarding your cattle and loose them you cannot go back for a second chance even if time remains.

If one or two head crosses the centre line back to the mob the team may only yard the cattle that remain at the yard end of the foul line.

Junior riders may yard 1 marked head of cattle and any other two head of cattle . The marked head must be one of the yarded cattle for time to be given.
